FAQ

1. What is coaching?

Coaching is a relatively new profession, the evolution of which is most often credited to a terrific coach and the founder of Coach University, Thomas Leonard. Coaches:
  • Help people set better goals and then reach and surpass them.
  • Ask their clients to do more than they would have done on their own.
  • Help their clients focus on what matters most to produce better results in less time.
  • Provide clients with the tools, support and structure to accomplish more.
  • Creates synergistic, win-win solutions.

2. How is coaching different from consulting or therapy?

Coaching is comparable to consulting except that the coach stays focused on the clients agenda, not his/her own, and stays with the client as long as the client sees the value he/she is receiving in implementing the new skills, changes, and goals.

Coaching is NOT therapy. Coaches do not focus on understanding past behavior or emotional stress of the client. If therapy is what client needs, we will ask that they deal with those issues with trained therapists before beginning the coaching relationship. Once those issues are addressed, coaching will help create quantum leaps in performance. The coaching partnership is future-bound without the restraints of history.
3. What is the basic philosophy of coaching?

Simply put, it is that we humans are great, that we're all discovering what we really want, and that we get what we want faster and more easily by having a coach who's been there and who challenges us to greater heights.
4. What happens when you hire a coach?

Many things, but the most important are:
  • You take yourself more seriously.
  • You take more effective and focused actions immediately because you set your accountability with the coach.
  • You stop putting up with "tolerations," those things which waste your time and energy, either physically or emotionally.
  • You create momentum so that results come more quickly, and build on each other.
  • You set better goals that are more exactly what you want.

5. Does the coach work on personal or business and professional goals?

Both! With the line between personal and business life blurring as it is today, the coach is the only professional trained to work with both aspects of your life and help you create a balance between the two.
6. Why does coaching work?

Coaching works for several reasons:
  • Synergy between the coach and clients create momentum.
  • Better goals are set - ones that naturally pull the client toward the goal rather than the goals that require the client to push themselves to the goal.
  • The client develops new skills, and these skills translate into more success.
  • It's FUN!

7. What about people who are already doing well in their lives. Why would they need a coach?

They might not need a coach. But it is helpful to ask themselves:
  • Are they doing what they most enjoy?
  • Are they tolerating anything or anyone that makes them uncomfortable?
  • Is life easy and fun?
  • Are they going to be financially independent in the next 15 years?
  • Do they have what they want most?
We've discovered that people often need to expect more out of their lives.
8. Can I hire a coach for a short-term, special project?

Absolutely! Some clients hire a coach to help them accomplish specific goals or projects. Usually, however, the client keeps working with the coach because they discover there are even greater heights to achieve.
9. What does it cost to hire a coach?

Each situation is unique. Call for a free consultation, and we will create a plan right for you or your organization.
